Hidden History in the District of Columbia NEWMINI-COURSE

Grades 7–11
This week-long course is designed to appeal to middle and early high-school aged students with an interest in history.  Each day we will visit out-of-the-way historical sites in the DC area and learn about their historical and/or cultural significance.  We will utilize these historical sites as jumping off points for authentic instruction about the history of our nation.  Travel will be provided and lunch will take place either at STA or at the sites. (Also listed for Upper School)

Cathedral! Exploring life in a Medieval Cathedral Town NEWMINI-COURSE

Grades 5–8
This one-week enrichment course offers students the opportunity to explore life in the Middle Ages using the National Cathedral as our inspiration and the Cathedral Close as our open-air classroom. We'll explore a topic each day with hands-on experiments and on-site visits. (Also open to rising 5th graders)

The Civil War: In-Person   NEWMINI-COURSE

Grades 6–9
This one-week course will take students on five days of field trips to for in-person experiential learning about the Civil War and Reconstruction period. The deadliest war in U.S. history and its unresolved questions continue to influence our lives today. Each day this camp will head to Civil War sites approximately one hour drives from St. Albans. On the way, we will listen to historical lectures to prepare for the visit. Site visits can include the visitor center, an orientation film, guided tours (including one on horseback), ranger talks, and a driving tour. Sites include Bull Run (Manassas), Chancellorsville, and Gettysburg (Pennsylvania). Students will pack cold lunches. *Two days will need students to arrive earlier to campus for distant sites (Also open to rising 9th graders).

Located in Washington, D.C., St. Albans Summer Programs – a combined summer camp and summer school for area and out-of-town boys and girls in grades Pre-K through 12 – provides half- and full-day academic and art classes and athletic camps for football, golf, rowing, swimming, and tennis at state-of-the-art athletic facilities.
